Somehow this is both ode and explanation. Reminds me of Mary Oliver's essay collection "Upstream," in which she writes that "attention is the beginning of devotion."

I can't think of a nicer comparison. Mary Oliver has a way of making attention feel both ordinary and sacred. Which is probably what I'm trying to do with a lamp on a windowsill.

I don't know if you intended to pen something so emotionally resonant, but this radiates with meaning that extends to relationships of all types. The evidence of thought...the small, accumulated acts of noticing that add up to atmosphere. This put into words, and into practice with objects, something I've also been feeling. Thank you.

I love this. I didn't set out to write about relationships, but halfway through I realized I may have spent 1,500 words describing how I'd like people to treat each other. Attention is sneaky like that. Thank you for reading it so generously.

I love this so much Colin! I appreciate how you are breaking down this nuanced art in such a poetic way. I agree wholeheartedly. Most of the arrangements I make, there is a period where I think this is truly awful and then 3 stems later it’s beautiful. (And then sometimes I have to dump it out and start over😆)Thanks for your insight and care that you are giving to this space.

Love the ideas and poetic reasoning. Inspiring.

Thank you. I continue to be amazed by how often the solution is moving something six inches and then acting like you've discovered a new branch of philosophy.
