I love reading what you write Colin. We are kindred spirits I think in our desire around being and doing. Goes deeper than the simple look of a space. Every few months I have a complete switch up of the two downstairs living spaces in our cottage. Colour, texture, light, shade, objets and temperature play into what evolves. Our shepherds hut stores all my textiles/cushions/artwork and collectibles. It’s a labour of love and there’s energy in it, directed largely by what takes place in the natural world, but also my own mood. What we need as two humans sharing a space. I love your images and thank you for the intelligence behind all you share so generously. ❤️

"That is my more. Stillness. Clarity. Meaning. I want more of that."

Thanks for all the columns, but this one especially.

As always, beautiful writing with thoughtful clarity much like your gorgeous design and styling work. I get so excited when I see you have a substack article. This one hit home because I recently moved and at 62 did a Swedish death clean, having to start over has presented a feeling of inauthenticity- just shopping for stuff or scrolling for inspo. Onward and upward, I guess.

‘I start to feel like my taste is being managed by a very enthusiastic personal shopper I never hired.’

I resonate with this so so much. The inundation of perfectly designed rooms makes it hard to determine where the algorithm ends and originality begins. You begin to wonder if you have anything new to add to the conversation. However, when I find my flow doing simple resets in my own home or store I'm reminded that I do have an intuition and talent worth sharing.

Incredible perspective on the saturation of design images these days. I also remember the hunt for the perfect inspo image and comp shopping new markets for the perfect products. My how things have changed. Thank you for all your thoughts always - for me they are very grounding and inspirational.

“Eventually even the imperfections feel optimized”. This is something I’ve been feeling lately. The sophistication of the algorithm makes it hard to feel like you have a unique perspective. I find it can then dull my in person experiences. Finding stretches of boredom, stillness and sitting in uncertainty are uncomfortable but necessary for creative growth and exploration. I so appreciate your perspective. I always leave your substack feeling reflective and reenergized
